Empowering South Africa’s children through energy relief
I&IFORYOU, founded and led by Iris Freericks and Ianthe Smulders, has at its core the aim to reach out and make a difference. Their latest project, proudly sponsored by The Sungrid Group (In2Brands), sees Iris and Ianthe travelling throughout South Africa, from Eastern Cape via Kwazulu Natal to Johannesburg. And their intention? To help the people of South Africa realise greater self-sufficiency through the use of solar power, and to educate on how this source of renewable energy can greatly improve the lives of millions.
With a focus on providing lighting and power to schools and crèches in energy poor communities, the I&IFORYOU team will share with impoverished areas throughout South Africa the benefits of both The Sungrid Group’s WakaWaka and Solsave Portable Power solutions.
“We aim to reach out to people worldwide (you) by bundling our combined efforts (I and I), and helping in places where we believe we can actually make a difference,” says Iris and Ianthe. With over 600 million people in Africa, 12 million in South Africa alone, having no access to power, portable (solar) power offers Africa the opportunity to generate its own energy supply and in that, transform millions of lives.
“We are excited and honoured to be part of this journey,” says Ryan Steytler, Director, The Sungrid Group. “We wish Iris and Ianthe a safe and successful trip as they live our ethos of ‘empowering Africa’.
